Chery Tiggo V
in South Africa: what we know

The Tiggo V is a seven-seat SUV that turns into a double-cab bakkie. Chery has confirmed it for South Africa in late 2026 — here is what is confirmed so far, what isn't, and how to get on the list.

Short answer

The Chery Tiggo V is not on sale in South Africa yet. Chery has confirmed it for the local market towards the end of 2026. It is a seven-seat SUV that converts into a double-cab bakkie by removing the rear roof section, offered with petrol and plug-in hybrid power. No South African price or final spec has been released. Message us to be first on the list.

The Tiggo V is a genuinely unusual thing: a family SUV and a light bakkie in one body. It sits above the Tiggo 8 Pro Max in the range and close in size to the seven-seat Tiggo 9. If you need a seven-seater or a load-carrier now, look at the Tiggo 8 Pro Max on our floor or talk to us about a bakkie — the Tiggo V is still about a year away. For the brand picture, our honest take on Chery reliability and our Chery vs Haval comparison are the place to start.

Is the Chery Tiggo V on sale in South Africa?

No, not yet. Chery revealed the Tiggo V at the Beijing motor show in April 2026 and has confirmed it is coming to South Africa towards the end of 2026. As of September 2026 there is no local pricing, no open order book and no final South African specification. Anything you read quoting a rand figure today is a guess.

When Chery South Africa announces the launch, we will replace this page with a full spec page — real prices, the variant walk, monthly instalments and stock status. For now, the most useful thing we can do is add you to the interest list.

What exactly is the Chery Tiggo V?

It is a transformable vehicle. In standard form it is a seven-seat SUV with a sliding second-row bench and a third row Chery says suits passengers up to 1.7 m tall.

The trick is the rear. A roof-and-side section made of plastic and glass lifts off — Chery quotes around 45 minutes to remove it — turning the back of the vehicle into an open load bed and leaving a double-cab bakkie. Chery's pitch is "one vehicle for all scenarios": school run during the week, load-lugger on the weekend.

Set your expectations correctly

This is an SUV that can double as a bakkie, not a workhorse. The quoted 500 kg payload and 750 kg unbraked towing are well short of a one-tonne bakkie like a GWM Steed or Nissan Navara. If you need a proper work bakkie, that is still the category to shop — talk to us about what's on the floor.

What engines will the Chery Tiggo V have?

Chery has shown it with two powertrains: a conventional petrol engine and a plug-in hybrid. Confirmed figures are limited to fuel consumption.

PetrolClaimed 7.84 L/100km. Engine size and power not confirmed for South Africa.
Plug-in hybridClaimed 6.0 L/100km. System power and electric-only range not confirmed for South Africa.

Chery Tiggo V — frequently asked questions

Is the Chery Tiggo V on sale in South Africa?

Not yet. Chery has confirmed the Tiggo V is coming to South Africa towards the end of 2026, but it is not on sale here and no local pricing or final South African specification has been published. This page is a what-we-know-so-far summary — message Tembani to be added to the interest list and we'll contact you when it lands.

How much will the Chery Tiggo V cost in South Africa?

Chery South Africa has not announced Tiggo V pricing. It slots in as a large family vehicle around Tiggo 9 size, so expect it to be priced in that upper part of the Chery range, but that is an expectation, not a confirmed figure. We will publish the real numbers here the moment Chery releases them.

What is the Chery Tiggo V?

It is a transformable family vehicle revealed at the Beijing motor show in April 2026. In its standard form it is a seven-seat SUV; a removable rear roof and side section, made of plastic and glass and taking around 45 minutes to take off, turns it into an open double-cab bakkie with a load bed. Chery markets it as one vehicle for multiple uses.

Will the Chery Tiggo V be a hybrid?

Both. Chery has shown the Tiggo V with a petrol engine and with a plug-in hybrid system. Claimed fuel consumption is 7.84 L/100km for the petrol and 6.0 L/100km for the plug-in hybrid. Power outputs and the hybrid's electric-only range have not been confirmed for South Africa.

How much can the Chery Tiggo V carry as a bakkie?

In its converted bakkie form Chery quotes a 500 kg payload and 750 kg unbraked towing. It is designed for occasional load-carrying and family use rather than as a full workhorse one-tonne bakkie, so treat it as an SUV that can double up, not as a Steed or Navara replacement.

Is the Chery Tiggo V the same as the Tiggo 5 or Tiggo 9?

No. The Tiggo V is a separate new model — the 'V' is a name, not a number, and it is not a facelift of the older Tiggo 5 or Tiggo 5x. It is close to the seven-seat Tiggo 9 in exterior size, but the Tiggo 9 is a conventional fixed-roof SUV while the Tiggo V's whole point is the removable rear section.

Can I reserve or pre-order a Chery Tiggo V at Tembani Sales?

Not a firm pre-order yet, because Chery has not opened the order book or released South African pricing. What we can do is add you to our interest list, so you are among the first we call with confirmed pricing, specification and a delivery estimate once Chery announces the local launch.

What Chery models can I actually buy from Tembani Sales now?

We have the Chery Tiggo Cross LiT, Tiggo 7 Hybrid and Tiggo 8 Pro Max on our floor, and we take pre-orders for the Chery Q electric SUV. If you want a seven-seater today, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max is the one to look at while the Tiggo V is still a year away.
