The GWM Steed 5 is R349 900 at Tembani Sales in Johannesburg — a 2025 Steed 5 2.0VGT S single cab demo with 9 100 km, a 110 kW / 320 Nm turbodiesel and a 6-speed manual. GWM discontinued the Steed in South Africa during 2025, so every Steed 5 on sale now is demo or used stock.

The Steed 5 was GWM's no-nonsense workhorse — a diesel single cab built for deliveries, trades and side-hustles rather than weekend lifestyle duty. GWM has since handed that job to the P300 SX, which makes a clean Steed 5 the cheaper way into a GWM bakkie. If you need an SUV from the same brand instead, see our Haval Jolion page; for a small, affordable SUV, the Nissan Magnite and Chery Tiggo Cross LiT are worth a look.

Price is what we sell at and excludes licensing and registration. The monthly figure is an estimate on a 10% deposit over 72 months at 12.5% — your real rate depends on the bank and your credit profile. For reference, the Steed 5 double cab was last listed new at R390 150 (4x2) and R423 350 (4x4) before it was discontinued, as reported by Cars.co.za in February 2026. We don't currently hold a double cab.
Yes. GWM confirmed to Cars.co.za that the Steed has been discontinued. The single cab went first, earlier in 2025, and the double cab followed towards the end of 2025. It is no longer listed as a model in GWM South Africa's bakkie line-up on gwm.co.za.
Its replacement at the entry level is the GWM P300 SX, which GWM quotes at 120 kW and 400 Nm. As of September 2026, gwm.co.za lists the P300 SX single cab from R414 950 — about R65 050 more than our Steed 5.
Discontinued means no new Steeds are being sold — not that the ones on the road stop being supported. Before you buy, ask us for this unit's first-registration date so you know exactly how much of GWM's 5-year / 100 000 km warranty is left.

Specs from GWM South Africa's Steed 5 Single Cab brochure (PDF, ~17 MB). Cars.co.za confirms the final Steeds kept the same 110 kW / 320 Nm engine and 6-speed manual.
GWM's Steed 5 brochure doesn't publish payload or towing figures, and we won't guess numbers you might load a bakkie against.
The legal payload of any specific bakkie is its GVM minus its tare, both shown on its licence papers. Our unit already carries a canopy and a ladder rack, which add to the tare — so WhatsApp us and we'll send you this exact bakkie's figures.

A work bakkie has to earn its keep from day one. You'll get straight answers on warranty, kilometres and papers from Tembani himself — not a junior on a sales floor. We've been trading in Johannesburg since 2019.
Our 2025 GWM Steed 5 2.0VGT S single cab is R349 900 in Johannesburg — a demo unit with 9 100 km, about R6 239 a month on a 10% deposit over 72 months at 12.5%. The Steed is no longer sold new, so every Steed 5 on sale now is demo or used stock, priced on its own condition and kilometres.
Yes. GWM confirmed to Cars.co.za in February 2026 that the Steed has been discontinued: the single cab was dropped earlier in 2025 and the double cab towards the end of 2025. GWM South Africa's current entry workhorse is the P300 SX, listed on gwm.co.za from R414 950 for the single cab as of September 2026. Existing Steed 5 units are still sold as demo and used vehicles.
The Steed 5 2.0VGT uses a 2.0-litre turbodiesel producing 110 kW at 4 000 rpm and 320 Nm from 1 400 to 2 800 rpm, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, according to GWM South Africa's Steed 5 Single Cab brochure. The S and SX grades share this engine.
GWM's Steed 5 Single Cab brochure doesn't publish a payload figure, so we won't guess one. The legal payload of any specific bakkie is its GVM minus its tare, both shown on its licence papers. Our unit has a canopy and ladder rack fitted, which add weight, so ask us for its exact figures on WhatsApp.
Before it was discontinued, the Steed 5 double cab was listed at R390 150 for the 4x2 and R423 350 for the 4x4, as reported by Cars.co.za in February 2026. Those were new-car list prices. We don't currently hold a double cab — the unit on our floor is a single cab.
GWM's published warranty for the Steed 5 is 5 years or 100 000 km. On a demo or used unit, the balance runs from the date of first registration, not from when you buy it. GWM's brochure lists the service plan as optional on the single cab, so ask us exactly what cover remains on this unit before you sign.
No. The P300 SX is a different, newer bakkie that took over the Steed's entry-level role in GWM's South African range. GWM quotes the P300 SX at 120 kW and 400 Nm against the Steed 5's 110 kW and 320 Nm. GWM is short for Great Wall Motor, so older listings may call it the Great Wall Steed 5.
It describes the engine: a 2.0-litre diesel with a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). The S that follows is the trim grade. GWM sold the Steed 5 single cab in two grades, the S workhorse model and the better-equipped SX, which adds alloy wheels, leather seats and rear park sensors.
Yes. GWM South Africa still hosts its Steed 5 Single Cab brochure as a PDF on gwm.co.za, with the engine figures and the S versus SX equipment list. It's a large file, around 17 MB, so on mobile data you may prefer to WhatsApp us and we'll send the key specs.
Yes — we deliver nationwide, not just around Gauteng. Tell Tembani which town you're in and he'll confirm delivery cost and timing up front. Finance, the trade-in valuation and paperwork are all handled remotely on WhatsApp, so you don't need to travel to buy.
Message Tembani and he'll send you more photos, the GVM and tare off the papers, and a finance estimate — usually within the hour.
