Chery is the mainstream Tiggo range, Omoda and Jaecoo are premium urban and outdoor SUVs, Lepas is a newer premium brand, and iCaur is the electric, retro-styled one.

Picture standing in a Johannesburg showroom, reading four badges that all sound like they came from the same place. They did, and that is exactly why buyers keep mixing them up. Here is which badge is which, who each is for, and which ones you can actually buy from us. Details are as of October 2026.
Are Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo and Lepas the same company?
Same parent, separate brands. According to TopAuto's group breakdown of 27 August 2026, the brands share back-office functions but run their own sales, marketing and after-sales teams, and their showrooms are separate.
One quirk: Omoda and Jaecoo report sales as one combined figure, Omoda & Jaecoo (O&J), to the Automotive Business Council. Jetour is often lumped in with the group, but it is run as a separate entity and is not part of Chery Group South Africa.
How do the brands actually differ?
In short: price band, body style and buyer. The table below maps each badge to its positioning and a model you may have seen advertised.
| Brand | Positioning | Known for | Example model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chery | Mainstream, value | Tiggo SUVs | Chery Tiggo 4 Pro |
| Omoda | Premium, urban | Sleek crossovers | Omoda C5 |
| Jaecoo | Premium, outdoor | Rugged-looking SUVs | Jaecoo J5, J7 |
| Lepas | Newer premium | Alternative to the Tiggo 4 Pro and up | Lepas L4, L6 |
| iCaur | Electric, retro style | Battery-electric SUVs | iCaur V23 |
The group's own ranking of the brands is described slightly differently by different reports, so treat the order as approximate and judge each car on its spec sheet.
What does each brand cost in South Africa?
Prices move, so these are the figures we can point to, not a price list. The cheapest way into the group is through Chery and Lepas; iCaur and Jaecoo's EV sit higher.
| Model | Brand | Price (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Lepas L4 | Lepas | From R299 900 |
| Chery Q (EV, pre-order) | Chery | From R349 895 |
| Lepas L6 | Lepas | R469 900 to R499 900 |
| iCaur V23 (EV) | iCaur | From R519 900 |
| Jaecoo J5 BEV (EV) | Jaecoo | R549 900 |
We have not listed Omoda prices because we do not stock the brand and have no verified figure to quote. Ask an Omoda dealer for the current price.
Does it all come with the same warranty?
No. Warranty is decided per brand and model, so never assume one brand's cover applies to another. On our own pages, the Lepas L4 lists a 5-year/150 000 km vehicle warranty, while the iCaur V23 lists 8 years/200 000 km.
The badge does not tell you the cover. Ask for the vehicle warranty, battery warranty (EVs) and service plan for the specific model and year before you pay a deposit.
Is "Lepas 6" the same as the Lepas L6?
Yes. The badge and model name is Lepas L6, even though many buyers search for "Lepas 6". Likewise, iCaur is known as iCar in China, and the name was changed for our market.
Which brand should you look at first?
Start with your budget and your driving, not the badge. A rough steer from the table above:
- Tightest budget: Chery's Tiggo range, then the Lepas L4.
- Want something more premium: the Lepas L6, or ask an Omoda or Jaecoo dealer about their SUVs.
- Want an electric car: the iCaur V23, or the Chery Q on pre-order.
Then compare the monthly instalment on two or three cars, because the cheapest sticker is not always the cheapest month.
The short version
- Same parent, different cars: Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo, Lepas and iCaur are separate brands with separate showrooms.
- Chery is mainstream Tiggo SUVs; Omoda is urban; Jaecoo is outdoor; Lepas is the newer premium brand; iCaur is electric.
- Warranty differs by brand and model, so get it in writing.
- At Tembani Sales: we have model pages for Chery, Lepas and iCaur, not Omoda or Jaecoo.
Frequently asked questions
Are Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo and Lepas the same company?
They share a Chinese parent company, but they are run as separate brands in South Africa. Each has its own showrooms, sales team and after-sales team. Omoda and Jaecoo are sold together as Omoda & Jaecoo (O&J), and report their sales as one combined figure.
Is Lepas the same as Chery?
No. Lepas is a separate, newer premium brand from the same group. It arrived in South Africa in March 2026 with the Lepas L4, positioned as a more premium alternative to the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. Chery itself sells the Tiggo range.
What is the difference between Omoda and Jaecoo?
Omoda focuses on sleek urban crossovers, starting with the Omoda C5 in 2023. Jaecoo focuses on outdoor-style SUVs such as the J5 and J7, with more emphasis on off-road looks. They are sold together as Omoda & Jaecoo.
What is iCaur, and is it the same as iCar?
iCaur is the Chery group's electric brand, selling retro-styled battery-electric SUVs such as the V23. It is known as iCar in China, and the name was changed to iCaur for the South African market.
Is "Lepas 6" the same as the Lepas L6?
Yes. People search for it as "Lepas 6", but the badge on the car and the model name is Lepas L6. The L4 is the smaller model and the L6 is a midsize SUV.
Which Chery group brands does Tembani Sales sell?
We have model pages for Chery, Lepas and iCaur cars. We do not currently have Omoda or Jaecoo model pages. Stock changes weekly, so check the showroom page or message us for what is on the floor today.
Do all the brands carry the same warranty?
No. Warranty is set per brand and model. For example, our Lepas L4 page lists a 5-year/150 000 km vehicle warranty, while the iCaur V23 page lists 8 years/200 000 km. Always ask for the warranty terms of the specific car in writing.
Which brand is best for a first-time buyer?
If price matters most, start with Chery's Tiggo range or the Lepas L4. If you want an electric car, look at the iCaur V23 or the Chery Q. The right answer depends on your budget and how far you drive, so compare monthly instalments, not just badges.
Can you trade in your current car against one of these?
Yes. We run a free trade-in valuation on your current car, and you can see what is on the floor in the showroom. A finance pre-check gives you a real monthly figure to compare. For a wider view, read Chery vs Haval: which is the better buy and whether Chinese cars hold their value.
Not sure which badge fits your budget?
Tell us what you drive now and what you can spend a month, and we will point you at the right car, even if that is not one of ours.
